Drawn to the boots, which were selected as the “most functional and comfortable shoes in the United States,” John Schweitzer and Clark Mathis gathered under him. “We want to mass-produce shoes that do not compromise the design and functionality of craftsmen.” The day they discussed their dreams, Merrell Boot Company was born. 36 years later, Merrell has grown into a brand that sells 17 million pairs of shoes a year in 160 countries around the world.
